After an almost two week break I'm back, and if you're wondering why there really wasn't much to say after the Eastern Illinois game. We won like we were suppose to, the younger kids got time, and both schools got the $$$ they wanted from the game. Not much else to say, now onto the Minnesota game.
The weather was lousy and so was Minnesota. I personally thought this would be a tougher game than it turned out to be. Our defense dominated the Gophers from the start, and took away their main (and apparently only) offensive weapon in WR Eric Decker. We played bracket coverage on him, which forced their QB Adam Weber to look at other receivers, or to try and run the football. Their run game yielded no success as our front seven shut it down. I'm not complaining and love the fact we posted a Goose Egg, shut outs are huge confidence boosters.
On the offensive side, we were able to move the ball at will but seemed to come up empty early in the game by coming away with field goals when we should have been able to put touchdowns on the board. Frankly, I'm still concerned with the offense as we need to convert good field position into big points and not settle. I do have to admit the offensive line is showing signs of improvement but this weeks game against Michigan will be a better test and really show if they have truly improved. Because, we all know how well we play and coach in The Big House. In my mind for us to win this game we're going to need to put early touchdowns on the board and make Michigan a passing team who has to come from behind.
I'll have more on this game later, but I will say I'm fairly nervous about our chances.....
